East of the Mississippi

This morning, we had bagels and coffee at Panera, checked out, and hit the road. Back on I-40E.

After a while, the terrain started changing. It was getting more and more hilly, and I thought we might be in the Ozarks. A hotel-room Google says that's exactly where we were. We reached St. Louis. Of course I kept calling it "Martahn San Looee".  Carol sure did enjoy that for a couple of hours!

Last night, I Googled "best place to take a picture of Gateway Arch", and my friends on the internet did not disappoint. We crossed the Mississippi and went to Malcom W. Martin Memorial Park in Illinois. The view definitely did not disappoint!

We ate lunch in the parking lot. Leftover restaurant chicken, crackers, and apple slices (Thanks Les and Sue!!)

Shortly after St. Louis, we got on I-70. This will take us all the way to Pittsburgh. We took 70 straight across Illinois. Upon approaching Indiana, we saw a farm with several bison grazing. I think that was our first buffalo sighting of the whole trip!

We entered Indiana, and shortly afterwards, we were at Terre Haute Brewing Company. All of us Pennsylvanians know that Yuengling is the US's oldest brewery. Well, Terre Haute Brewing is the country's second oldest brewery.

And the beer was quite good!

We have a good friend who grew up in Indiana. I think he might have mentioned once that they grow a lot of corn in Indiana. So, when we saw "street corn" on the menu, we HAD to have it. It is corn, butter, and crushed corn chips. Double corn!

All in all, Terre Haute Brewing was a good choice. Afterwards we found a hotel by the interstate. Tomorrow's plan is to jump back on I-70 and hit Pittsburgh!!! We both can't wait to see Michael and enjoy parent's weekend!
