The Pacific Ocean!
We started off the day with a scrumptious breakfast cooked by our hosts Les and Sue: scrambled eggs (from the hens), black beans, cheese, salsa, and avocado. Plus fresh pears, plums, and raspberries (all from the garden). Oh, and delicious coffee to get me going!
We relaxed a little and then took a drive to the Oregon coastal town of Depoe Bay, where we got our first close-up look at the Pacific Ocean:

After this we drove back home. Well, nearly home. First Les and Sue drove us the the Honda dealership to pick up the Civic from her day at the spa. We got her back all washed and vacuumed and ready for the return trip.
Then we went to Brooks Wine for a glass of wine and some beautiful scenery:

That was a photo taken from the parking lot of the restaurant we were going to. It's called Tidal Raves. When we went inside, there was a picture of the building from the 60s, and it was a gas station. Pretty nice place to stop for gas! Here's a picture from our seats:

I had what I think what may have been the best fish and chips I've ever eaten. Oh, and as an added bonus we saw whales spouting in that small inlet you can see directly over those people's heads. (Sorry, no photos. They were too quick!)
The town of Depoe Bay is named after an actual bay called Depoe Bay, which has the distinction of being the world's smallest natural navigable harbor. Here's a picture. It's so cute:

After Depoe Bay, we drove to a state park called Devil's Punchbowl. It's a natural basin formed by the water and waves:
Here was also got some more great vistas of the Pacific:

Afterwards, we returned home. We relaxed in the library to chat, snack, and have a glass of wine. After our big breakfast, big lunch, and snacks. We decided to skip dinner and just go directly to dessert. We had big slices of Les's homemade marionberry pie, made with berries from his garden. Of course with vanilla ice cream!
The plan tomorrow is to get up early and head for Crescent City, CA, which will set us up for a visit to Redwood National forest on Wednesday.
Of course we're going to miss our gracious hosts Les and Sue. And I'll miss the hens and sheep. But most of all I'll miss Sydney, our hosts' delightful dog, who (see picture below) is also a fierce guard dog!
wow, that is the most beautiful spot yet. you guys are certainly enjoying every stop along the way. We are enjoying following you.
