There's No Place Like Home

This morning, we got up, checked out of our hotel, and picked up Michael at his fraternity house. The three of us had a stupendous breakfast at Ritter's Diner. After so many mediocre hotel breakfasts, it was wonderful to have an honest to goodness diner breakfast. And the coffee was just perfect.

After breakfast, we drove Michael back to campus, dropped him off, and headed towards home. Please note that I said "towards home" not "home". Rather than plugging our home address into Google maps, we plugged in Victory Brewing Company, Downingtown PA.

We had talked to our son Luke who was helping us out by staying at our house in West Chester. We thought it would be fun to meet at Victory before arriving home. Once home, neither Carol nor I wanted to turn around and leave our poor dog home alone again.  So Carol, Luke, and I had a nice dinner and a few of these:

After dinner, we once again got back in the car (but just for ten minutes) and finally arrived at home. We got a very energetic and happy welcome from our dog Mac. I don't know who was happier, us or Mac.

After we unloaded the car, I took a picture of the final trip miles:

I would like to sing the praises of my 2018 Honda Civic. She was a trooper during the whole trip, while managing an average of 45 MPG! I will have to give her some TLC tomorrow and clean the bugs off the front grill. After a wash and wax and an interior vacuum, she'll be a happy camper once again.

So I think this is the end of this blog. I thank everyone who checked in with us to track our progress. Thanks also to those who left comments, either on the blog or on Carol's facebook page. It was so much fun to hear from people while so far away from home. They were doses of "homesick relief".

So tomorrow's plan is to putz around the yard, do some cleanup, take care of my car, and NOT DRIVE ACROSS THE COUNTRY!

  1. Welcome home! I'm sure Mac was over the moon to see you guys.

  2. Hopefully Mac ran like a freak show in back yard doing the "low butt run"! Can't wait to hear about the whole experience!

  3. Congratulations Steve and Carol. You guys are my heroes.

ps: let me know when you want to go for a glider ride.
