We're in Canada, eh?
Started off the day with coffee and biscuits with huckleberry jam at Wild Coffee Company in Whitefish. Then we packed up and got back on the road. Carol checked our mileage before we left, and yesterday we put on a whopping total of eleven miles. My kind of day!
We headed north out of Whitefish. While we were eager to continue our excellent adventure, I felt a little verklepmt leaving Whitefish. It was such a great town and we had so much fun. I would really like to go back soon and visit again.
On our way out of Whitefish, we saw a bald eagle. It wasn't cruising up in the sky. It was perched on a fencepost on the side of the road. I've never seen a bald eagle in the wild so up close. They are BIG birds!
It wasn't long before we entered Canada. (What is the nature of your visit...?) We then turned west across the Canadian Rockies.

We wound through valleys and over mountains. We saw a variety of signs warning us about animals crossing. We saw a deer crossing sign. Then we saw an elk crossing sign. Then we saw a caribou crossing sign. And then finally a big horn sheep crossing sigh. Sadly, we saw none of those animals. However, we did almost run over a red squirrel, so...there's that.
At one point we went over a pass that said it was 5,800 something feet. That's as high as we were when we took the Road to the Sun in Glacier. At that point we were once again up in the clouds. After that final pass, we descended RAPIDLY (8% grade) for miles and miles. The change in air pressure was like landing in an airplane. We needed gum to keep our ears popping and equalizing.
We arrived in Nelson, BC around 1:30 pacific time. We checked into The Adventure Hotel, right in the middle of downtown. Here's a pic from our hotel room, looking across Kootenay Lake to the mountains beyond.
We had a great late lunch/early dinner at Jackson's Hole, and enjoyed an IPA from Nelson Brewing Company. It was called Bent Pole Northwest IPA, and it was good. I mean, like Victory good.
So tomorrow, we are going to strike out early towards Vancouver. Our plan is to do a long drive and get as many miles (er....kilometers) behind us as possible and stop west of Vancouver. That will give us some time on Thursday afternoon to explore the city.
Looks so beautiful. So picturesc😮😍
