A Quiet Day
Today, we drove from Billings, Montana to Great Falls, Montana. It wasn't a huge drive. About 4 hours, but the idea was to break up the drive between Billings and Whitefish (our destination near Glacier National Park).
I have no pictures of the drive. It was beautiful country. The TV show Bonanza kept coming to mind. And I realized now that we are definitely in the Wheat Belt. In earlier days we had corn stretching from horizon to horizon. Now it is wheat.
We passed a few places where they were harvesting. That is a big operation! The thresher probably spans about thirty feet of row, and there were eighteen-wheelers standing nearby to haul off the harvest. Also, I was surprised to see that the mature wheat stands only about two feet tall!
Oh! And we got passed by two cars with Pennsylvania tags, one after the other. I'm guessing they were traveling together. I don't remember seeing any PA tags since we crossed the Mississippi.
Great Falls is a cool city with a nice downtown. We grabbed some pizza and beer at Mighty MO Brewing Company, then back to the hotel to plan for tomorrow.
Here's a picture of the Missouri River from our hotel room window:
